After a robust week of trading, the US stock market came to a standstill on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial closed slightly higher at 34,947.28 points, just 0.01 percent above the previous day's close. However, the index failed to surpass the key level of 35,000 points. Despite this, it still managed to post a solid gain of close to two percent for the week. On Wednesday, the Dow reached its highest level since the end of August.
As the earnings season came to a close, the US stock market lacked impetus ahead of the weekend. Economic data also failed to move the market. The US bond market and interest rate expectations, which often have an impact on stock prices, were also uneventful on Friday.
Other major indices had similarly muted movements. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 closed with a minimal gain of 0.03 percent, ending the day at 15,837.99 points. For the week, the index recorded a two percent increase. Meanwhile, the broad-based S&P 500 closed 0.13 percent higher at 4,514.02 points.
